Department of Educational Research and Evaluation

Along with other determinants, quality of education also rests with quality of research, assessment and evaluation practices. In view of this, Research Wing was established in 1960 at the Institute of Education & Research, University of the Punjab. Since then, it has been conducting a number of research studies on various issues on education including educational surveys, case studies, and experimental studies. For these studies, Research Wing developed various tools such as intelligence tests, achievement tests, survey questionnaires, and basic Urdu vocabularies. These studies were sponsored by the University, Federal Government, provincial governments and international agencies.
In 2004, to further extend its role, the Research Wing was upgraded to the status of independent department titled “Department of Educational Research & Evaluation” (DERE). The department offers its unique programme ‘Master in Educational Research & Assessment' which is not seen in any other public or private sector higher education institution in the country. Recently the department has launched “Pakistan Journal of Educational Research & Evaluation”. This initiative will provide an opportunity to the faculty and students of the Department and the Institute in particular and other professionals in general to publish their research so that the research findings may be accessible for the education policy makers, academicians, managers and other relevant stakeholders of the society.
